Dear Parents,

My how time has flown!  I cannot believe Thanksgiving is next week.  We have had so many wonderful learning and service opportunities happen this fall.  I cannot wait to experience all the joy the Advent and Christmas season will bring to St. Malachy.  
We have lots of things coming up very soon.  Please take a minute to review events and important dates. I will be praying for your families over the Thanksgiving break.  I hope that you are able to enjoy spending quality time with the ones you hold so dear to your hearts.

A few things to note:

Wednesday - November 25 - 1:10 Dismissal

SCRIP HOLIDAY SCHEDULE - Monday, November 16th will be a normal scrip day.  We will be adding an additional day Friday, November 20th and you will receive your cards by Wednesday, November 25th.  We will not have a scrip order on Monday, November 23rd and back to normal schedule on Monday, November 30th.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th = RED, WHITE AND/OR BLUE DAY - We are wearing these colors to show our support for Paris, France with the recent events, but also as a hopeful sign of peace for all countries.  We will be having a short prayer service for peace at 2:40 that afternoon.

UPDATING OUR TEXTING SERVICE - Do you like to receive text messages from the school?  Well we are going to run an update on our service.  Because this update, families need to agree to receive text messages again.  Please take a moment to accept our request to continue to be part of our text messaging service.  If you are not receiving text messages please email Sarah Lane slane@crestonstmalachy.org or Jennifer Simmons jsimmons@crestonstmalachy.org

SPIRIT OF ST. NICHOLAS - St. Nicholas is known as the patron saint of children and for doing many kind and generous deeds in secret.  Let’s  celebrate this wonderful spirit of giving by donating an item to Catholic Charities.  We will be collecting for one week beginning Monday, November 30th until Friday, December 4th.  In order to ensure a variety of items, we are asking grade bands to contribute certain goods.

K-2 - shampoo & conditioner

3-5 - bar soap & toilet paper

6-8 faculty and staff - diapers (size 4, 5,6) & laundry detergent (25 loads and larger, no PODS)

LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE - DECEMBER 3rd - We are in need of students who would like to ride along on our float.  Please contact Mrs. Simmons if you are interested.

Dear Parents,

Throughout the school year 1st-8th grade classes are responsible for leading Mass.  This is a very special celebration for our students.  It is a proud time for parents and grandparents to witness their children participating in the Mass.  St. Malachy school would like to provide a reception for the class and immediate families following one of  their Mass celebrations.  Please join us for donuts and coffee on the following dates:

November 18th  - 4th Grade

December 16th - 1st Grade

January 13th - 6th Grade

February 24th - 2nd Grade

March 9th - 8th Grade

March 16th - 7th Grade

April 6th - 5th Grade

April 20th - 3rd Grade

A few things to note:

SCRIP ON YOUR PHONE - Did you know you can get SCRIP gift cards instantly added to your smartphone from your checking account?  Did you know everytime you purchase a SCRIP gift card you are helping the school and lowering your tuition bill? This sounds like a win win!  Come to St. Malachy School Library - November 18th at 4pm to get your phone all signed up for Black Friday deals and Christmas shopping!  Please bring your checking account number and routing number to help with the signup process.

BOOK FAIR - WOW, thank you, thank you, thank you!  Our Book Fair was a tremendous success.  The teachers loved all of their new books you purchased for them.  Nothing gets a teacher more giddy than a new book.  We were also able to select many new and wonderful hardback books for our school library.  Thank you again for your generous purchases.

Please Note...

November 1st - Students will need to pack their shorts away for the winter.  They may unpack them and begin wearing them again in March.

 The books have arrived and will be for sale through Thursday.  Students may bring money to purchase books during Library class during that week.  Parents may come and purchase books for Christmas gifts, etc.  Parents may also purchase books for a teacher’s wish list, books they would use in their classrooms.

Dear Parents,

Parent teacher conferences are right around the corner.  This year we will ask that you sign up for your conference through our digital portal.   We are so excited to offer this service this year to parents.  The teachers are excited using the system too.  We hope that you find this an easy way to let your child’s teacher know when you would like to attend your conference.

A few things to note:

Middle School Announcements - Creston Middle School sends out daily announcements.  Mrs. Lane will be placing these announcements on our Power School Daily Bulletin page.  If you would like to receive this by email daily please register on Power School under email notifications.  If you forgot your Power School password please contact Mrs. Lane to have your password reset. https://ps-ddm.gwaea.org/public/

Technology Committee - We are putting together a technology committee.  This committee will help plan and implement a technology plan for St. Malachy School.  Members of this committee will be from the school, school board and parish. Kitchen Substitute Needed: St. Malachy School is looking for extra help in the food service area.  The job will be to serve food, assist in food preparation, clean tables and wash dishes.  We would like to get a sub list developed so if there is ever a day that the school is short staffed we could call on you to help out.  Please call Jennifer Simmons if you are interested at 641-782-7125, email Mrs. Simmons at jsimmons@crestonstmalachy.org  or stop by the school’s office.  Thank you!

Back to the Future day was fantastic!  The kids enjoyed all the classroom activities the teachers planned for them.
