5/12/16

Dear Parents,
This week our Kindergarten and Preschool held a literacy night.  Families came and ate dinner, read books and created crafts based on Mo Willems books!  There was lots of energy and excitement coming from the gym!
I love seeing children, at any grade level, get so excited about books!  I hope your children get as excited as mine do about reading new books.  I enjoy taking my children to the library to sign up for the annual summer reading program.  Take some time, in the next week, to make a summer reading plan.  How will you keep your children excited about reading through the summer?

RAGBRAI is coming to town!
St. Malachy School and Holy Spirit Parish is hosting a noodle dinner.
We need everyone’s help to feed 1700 hungry bike riders.
We are asking that each Parish and School family to sign up and help. Please sign up for a volunteer time slot!  You are welcome to sign up for more than one time.  We will needs lots of people to pull together this great fundraising and social event.  Students going into 6th grade and up may sign up for a time.
Money raised will cover our school’s rising field trip costs and also go to Holy Spirit's Church.

Money raised from this event will cover our school’s rising field trip costs.
“Field trips provide students with a window to the real world that they don't get in the classroom, and they can help students understand real-world applications of seemingly abstract topics such as in math and science. Spending time outside the classroom doesn't mean students aren't learning knowledge that could show up on standardized tests. Several studies have shown that students retain more knowledge through the type of experience-based learning that field trips provide when compared to in-class learning.” ~ excerpt from U.S. News and World Report

Congratulations to Halle Evans
She won our yearbook cover contest!
